Sad day at the Birdman house... - birdmanjeff - 05-11-2008 Today I lost one of the most loyal and loving pets I could have ever had, My 13 year old cockatiel Kirby. He died quietly in the night of unknown but sudden causes, and he will be missed. He never failed to bring a smile to me on a bad day and I have a hard time imagining a day without him. He joins now both of his former mates in the hereafter and I am sure he will regale them with his great adventures since their departures. I am also proud to say his many children continue to make others happy to this day. My heart has joined the thousand for my friend stopped flying today. Thanks for letting me let that out with you all, Re: Sad day at the Birdman house... - AlphaDog - 05-11-2008 I'm very sorry, Birdman. Even though most of us have the more common pets like cats and dogs, I do understand that birds can be just as much a part of the family. I understand how you will miss him. Re: Sad day at the Birdman house... - MacArtist - 05-11-2008 Sorry for your loss, Jeff. Re: Sad day at the Birdman house... - Don C - 05-11-2008 It's amazing how much a small bird "fills" a house with wonderful sounds. It was a sad day for us too when our Birdie Bonzo left us. I knew the night before that he was not well but there was nothing to do but let nature have her back. We'd put the cats out of the room and let her fly around which she could do reasonably well, but never did get the hang of landing, usually flying up to the logs that made up the sides of the house, but she could not perch there so she just fluttered down to the floor where we'd pick her up. Her chirping always made us smile. So many of use here have morned together with the loss of long time (and some not so long time) friends who fill our lives beyond anything that our valued human friends can provide. 13 years is a long run for Kirby and you can certainly be grateful for those wonderful years. Re: Sad day at the Birdman house... - space-time - 05-11-2008 Sorry to hear the sad news ![]() Re: Sad day at the Birdman house... - prymsnap - 05-11-2008 So sorry. My home office "mate" is an African Grey, and I know how attached you can become. Re: Sad day at the Birdman house... - rgG - 05-11-2008 I'm sorry to hear that your feathered friend is gone. Re: Sad day at the Birdman house... - Pam - 05-11-2008 I lost my cockatiel Sydney several years ago. She was my first "pet" and was my constant companion for 19 years. Two cats came later and they knew who ruled the roost. As did she. She'd fly down to the floor and prance around in front of them. Tormenting them. Birds are amazing companions, loads of personality and way smarter than people give them credit for. I'm very sorry for your loss. I remember mine as if it were yesterday. I'm glad you two found each other. Re: Sad day at the Birdman house... - Rick-o - 05-11-2008 Aw. That's tough to take. Cockatiels are great friends. I've had a least one (sometimes many) over the past 30 years. I lost Arnold two years ago and he was just shy of 18. He had a good run, but I was really sorry to see him go. Our new guy, Byrd (he's an Admiral, you know) is such a character. He goes nuts when the phone rings. It's almost like he thinks the call is for him! He'll nibble on an ear if you get too busy talking and ignore him. And when I get a nextel push to talk conversation going, he'll climb right down my arm trying to see where the voice is coming from. Sorry for your loss. Hopefully, you can find another as loyal and loving as Kirby. Re: Sad day at the Birdman house... - JJ - 05-11-2008 I am sorry for your loss. John |
