The question becomes, 'does the leopard installer install ALL files that ALL supported machines might need? Or just the files required for that specific computer?'
I've sold my macbook, but yanked the drive first. I intend to simply put it into the new SR macbook. Will I have any problem? ARE YOU SURE?
If you know WITH certainty the correct answer, please provide evidence or a link to the evidence. Speculation, while harmless, is not helpful.

If the 2.2Ghz originally shipped with a system OLDER the the one currently installed on the 2.16ghz, then you're good.
i.e--Assume 2.2Ghz shipped with 10.5.0, and the 2.16gh is currently running 10.5.1. Then you can swap the HD and run with it.
But if the 2.2Ghz shipped with 10.5.0, and the 2.16Ghz is running 10.4.8, then it might work, but probably will not.

I would say it's a good possibility, but this is what I would do.
Put the HD into the MacBook Pro, start up off the install DVD, do an archive and install, boot up off the HD, run updates once again, are download the latest combo updater and use that, check for updates again, use the Mac and test it out.
edited to add: assuming the drive is already formatted the correct way (GUID partition scheme) and has Leopard installed.

My vote is that it will be just fine. I'm assuming you're running 10.5.2 on both otherwise you would have mentioned the OS.

I'd buy (if you don't have one already) a cheap enclosure; put it in and see if it boots and runs OK. Go from there. Use the enclosure for the drive you're removing as a backup.

I don't see where it would hurt anything to just try it. But backing up up that HD could be a good idea.
DiskWarrior updates their CDs regularly to boot new Macs because there are occasional changes in the ROM.
My WAG (and that's all it is) is if the ROM is different between those two models, then the same HD might not boot both.
Or it may be that the ROM just looks for something specific in the OS, and Leopard on both (certainly Retail Leopard on both??) would work. Maybe.
