... a rating/score, NOT the free credit reports from the three major bureaus, I know about that...
Does anybody offer a free credit score? If not, who's the cheapest? (I see that Experian's is running about $6... just wonder if it'd be worth it, since they're only giving you based on their own information, and not the two other bureaus... so does the score vary by bureau?)

I think most of the free credit reports ALSO show your score(s).
At least, the last time I availed myself of one, it did.

Normally, the credit report does not include your FICO score (assuming that's the credit score you're talking about). The only way I know of to get one free is to sign up for one of the many listed on a google search, then cancel before your 30 day trial is up and they ding you for the full fee.
There is one other way. If you've applied for a mortgage recently, the bank or broker may tell you your score if you ask nicely. :-) That's how I found out my wife's and mine a few years ago when we refinanced.

Thanks guys. I just did the Credit Karma one, and that worked pretty well. Somebody remind me, what is considered a "good" score?

doesnt it affect your credit negatively if you check a lot?
or does that have to do with something else?
