"Welcome to Macintosh" first run on new computer...run again? - katkramer - 05-12-2008

I had so much fun opening my MacBook this afternoon...it ran the pretty intro presentation, then asked me to register...

I wanted to show my boyfriend, and ex-Dell programmer, how much fun it is to open a new Mac (he's converting, by the way, and has sworn off both Dell & M$).

Is there any way to re-run the first script that runs on a Mac...again?

Heck, I could do it every day and play like I'm getting a new computer every day.

: )

Sure, just do a clean install of the OS.

The Welcome mov can be found and run over and over.

The rest of the setup- I don't think so.

There was a link or post here to macosxhints.com about where to find the mov. on your HD. I can't think of any keywords, and I'm not at a Mac to look that up.

Try this... - RAMd®d - 05-12-2008

* Go into the "/System/Library/CoreServices" folder and control-click on "Setup Assistant". Click on "Show Package Contents".
* In the package, go into the "Contents" folder and then the "Resources" folder. Control-click on "TransitionSection.bundle" and click on "Show Package Contents".
* Again, go into the "Contents" folder and then the "Resources" folder.
* You'll find the "intro-sound.mp3" and "intro.mov" files there.

If you don't mind getting rid of your user account and all data you can reset everything back to factory condition pretty easily (works with Panther and Tiger; don't know about Leopard):

To remove account "test" and restore boot to "Welcome" screen:
Boot w/ command-s
/sbin/fsck -yf
/sbin/mount -uw /
rm -rf /Users/test /var/db/netinfo/local.nidb /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
reboot

pay attention to those spaces!
