Suggestions for cleaning windshield - Interior - JoeH - 05-12-2008 Well, we just had the topic of getting the exterior of a windshield clean, how about the interior? I have tried alcohol and ammonia based cleaning products, can see that there is a film that is just being smeared around. So what do you use to get these kind of films off? The film is especially visible under bright light. Re: Suggestions for cleaning windshield - Interior - lost in space - 05-12-2008 That's probably the nasty plasticizer that outgasses from the plastic in the interior, especially on new cars parked in the sun. Helps slow down accumulation if you keep the windows cracked a bit when the car is parked. I've gotten rid of it with a product called, I think glass polish. It's a lot like polish for the paint - you rub it on, let it dry, then rub it off with a clean rag. A detail shop might give you some tips. Good luck! Re: Suggestions for cleaning windshield - Interior - RAMd®d - 05-12-2008 Glass Plus works well for me, and even Windex is pretty good these days. But I clean my windshield and back window frequently. Re: Suggestions for cleaning windshield - Interior - OWC Jamie - 05-12-2008 Windex (or any window cleaner) Trick seems to be removing it all. Polishing cloths seem to work better than a paper towel for the finishing wipe. Re: Suggestions for cleaning windshield - Interior - kap - 05-12-2008 The ghetto way: rubbing alcohol + vinegar + water with crumble newsprints. If you are alergic to rubbing alcohol then just vinegar + water combo. Re: Suggestions for cleaning windshield - Interior - Harbourmaster - 05-12-2008 GLASS WAX! ![]() http://www.vermontcountrystore.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=35742&itemType=PRODUCT&RS=1&keyword=glass+wax&searchid=inceptor http://www.shophometrends.com/product.asp?pn=411006&bhcd2=1210635759 Re: Suggestions for cleaning windshield - Interior - Mike Johnson - 05-13-2008 Warm water with a little dish soap, a handful of clean rags, and a small squeegee. Put towels down to catch drips and runoff. I find it works far better than Glass Plus or Windex, which evaporate and leave much of the crap still on the surface of the glass. I've used SoftScrub to great success, too, on a windshield with gummy cigarette smoke residue. You definitely need a squeegee if you're using SoftScrub. Re: Suggestions for cleaning windshield - Interior - Paul F. - 05-13-2008 I used acetone once on a stubborn windshield.... the former owner was a smoker (YUCK!!!). Worked pretty well... Followed up with windex and paper towels.. Ventilate well, or you'll gas yourself to death with the acetone :-) Re: Suggestions for cleaning windshield - Interior - rgG - 05-13-2008 Do use the crumpled up newspaper and either Windex or Vinegar & water solution. Just keep rubbing with the newspaper until the smearing is gone. Re: Suggestions for cleaning windshield - Interior - GeneH - 05-13-2008 Mike Johnson: Thanks for your suggestion. A squeegee - a novel idea and so very, very obvious too! So obvious that you never think of it. Have never tried a squeegee on interior glass before, only exterior. Windshields and rear window glass can be a bitch to reach and thoroughly clean well as the windshields and rear windows are very slanted on cars nowadays. But a squeegee should do the job just fine. So obvious! Thanks again. |
