Pics from a recent trip to Bowling Green (and Cave City) - Rain - 05-13-2008 We drove up in the rain, Toured the Corvette Plant and Museum, drove up to Heaven Hills Distillery, and spent the night in WigWams: Mine is the black one with the custom wheels and hood (and the long haired guy behind the wheel). http://s224.photobucket.com/albums/dd97/MSGCCC/Bowling%20Green%20Apr%202008/?start=all Re: Pics from a recent trip to Bowling Green (and Cave City) - ztirffritz - 05-13-2008 Do they still have 1/2 of the only remaining 1.5 '83 Corvettes mounted above the entrance? There was one in the museum, and one above the entrance the last time that I took the tour. The museum was a bit of a let down in my opinion. I once saw a guy drive a brand new ZR1 out of the assembly plant and floor it across the parking lot. I think that he was doing about 150 before he took his foot off of the pedal. **edited** because I found that it was the '83 model year that was never actually produced. http://www.corvettemagazine.com/2000/january/83/83p4.asp Re: Pics from a recent trip to Bowling Green (and Cave City) - Rain - 05-13-2008 oh, we all gun it leaving the parking lot of the museum. But its usually an unstated rule for those taking Museum Delivery of a new Vette. Some guys do it, and then put her on a trailer to get it home. Others dont want to get out of the drivers seat. Museum is expanding.. Forget how much, but its at least going to double in size. They also have guided tours where everyone gets an earpiece in order to hear your guide clearly.. Thats the best way to go thru the Museum. The assembly plant tour is pretty cool if you've never been. The remaining 1983 is still there.. They move it around now. It used to sit in the front rotating window but now they let diff. Corvette Clubs place a member's car there. Great stories about how the assembly plant hid that car, painted that car, and even rolled it off in the woods to prevent GM from finding it and destroying it. It finally surfaced when the museum came to be. Re: Pics from a recent trip to Bowling Green (and Cave City) - ztirffritz - 05-13-2008 They used to have an '83 chopped lengthwise down the middle and fixed above the entrance. The tour guide would say that there are only 1.5 remaining in existence. Re: Pics from a recent trip to Bowling Green (and Cave City) - Don Kiyoti - 05-13-2008 Did you sample any rye at Heaven Hill? Their Rittenhouse Bottled-in-Bond 100 proof rye one Best American Whiskey at the big liquor competition in San Francisco (?) a few years ago. The 80 proof rye is really good - goes for about $16 bucks. Seeing the wigwam motel makes me glad. It's so good that people are keeping it up and running! Re: Pics from a recent trip to Bowling Green (and Cave City) - Rain - 05-13-2008 Actually was not able to sample the rye. Had some 12 yr old and some 18 yr old.. (evan williams and elija craig) They had a 32yr(or something close) for $350 a bottle but I didnt pick any up. Seems they misplaced some barrels, found them, bottled it and its now the oldest stuff out there. HAHA! Yes, the Wigwams were a Hoot! Not the Waldorf, but quite a slice of Americana! Re: Pics from a recent trip to Bowling Green (and Cave City) - mrthuse - 05-13-2008 Old Elija Craig could be nectar of the gods - yum. ...ever tried Jefferson Reserve? Re: Pics from a recent trip to Bowling Green (and Cave City) - Rain - 05-14-2008 Have not, but Im open to suggestions. |
