IMac question - pipiens - 05-14-2008

My neighbor is planning to switch to a 20" iMac. He has pretty light usage. Email, surfing, iPhoto, and spreadsheet are his major activities. Are there any reasons why the low end 2.4 Ghz model will be noticeably less than he 2.66 GHz model for his needs? He plans to max out RAM and add external disk storage.

He should be very happy, especially after maxing the RAM.

Re: IMac question - jdc - 05-14-2008

it will handle all those tasks with ease

he could always go with the last 2.4 -- $1220 at amazon

larger internal drive and faster video than the current low end 2.4

heres the 3 models he should look at:

$1094: 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, SuperDrive

$1220: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, SuperDrive

$1150: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD SuperDrive

Re: IMac question - pipiens - 05-14-2008

Will the faster video buy him anything for his usage?

Re: IMac question - jdc - 05-14-2008

nope

Thanks for the help.

Re: IMac question - modelamac - 05-14-2008

He should plan his purchase for the long haul, to get the most use(years) out of it. Buying one with the top video card available may get him an extra year or so of use.
