Nyquil doesn't do it for me anymore - Dennis S - 05-14-2008

I took some for the first time in years for bronchitis. It tasted different and still made me shiver, but it didn't knock me out like it used to. It used to be the big gun for reducing symptoms and getting to sleep. Maybe it's because I've taken so much benadryl lately and got used to it.

Edit:

I realized I used the Wal-Mart brand and that's probably why it tastes different. I think part of the effect used to be a Pavlovian reaction to the taste and wollop.

Don't take Nyquil if you have a blood pressure problem. Years ago it put me in the ER followed by a night in the cardiac ward. They warn you but I ignored it.

The formula was changed a year or two ago.... much weaker now. I agree it doesn't work as well.

It still has 10% alcohol.

Dennis,

The question is which type of did you use? You need antibiotics to fight off the upper respiratory infection that caused it in the first place and you need something to reduce the production of phlegm in your chest. If you used the cough formula, then all it will do is mask the cough symptoms since it doesn't have anything for removing the chest congestion.

They took out the pseudoephedrine and a lot of people complain that it doesn't work as well. So, according to Wikipedia, they now make something called Nyquil D that you have to buy at the pharmacy counter, which does contain pseudoephedrine.

what ever pseudo-pseudophed like chemical they've put in the over the counter stuff just doesn't work. i thought it was just me but i finally saw an article a few months ago where studies showed that the dosage of that chemical in OTC configurations was useless, completely useless. the public is being had.

i now ask for the real pseudophedrine products behind the counter. this means i have to wait in line. what a pain.
