PDF tip of the day: open password-protected PDF - clay - 05-19-2008 Please observe all laws pertaining to this subject... Had a password-protected PDF from a client that we needed to extract a graphic. Screen cap didn't do the trick because of the nature of the graphic. Trying to open in Illustrator presents us with a password box (the client doesn't know the password). In some googling, I discover that you can open the PDF in the ColorSync Utility found in OS X, re-save, then open in illustrator or your PDF editor of choice. Just got the graphic and we're on our way. thought I'd pass it along Re: PDF tip of the day: open password-protected PDF - laarree - 05-19-2008 [quote clay]Please observe all laws pertaining to this subject... Re: PDF tip of the day: open password-protected PDF - bazookaman - 05-19-2008 there is an app called PDF Key that will bypass a password protected PDF. But its not free. Re: PDF tip of the day: open password-protected PDF - kj4btkljv - 05-19-2008 Doesn't work for me... maybe because my test PDF file only has text, and no images? The file I get after opening in ColorSync Utility and saving to the desktop is in fact a PDF file. It's just a blank white PDF file. Jeff Re: PDF tip of the day: open password-protected PDF - clay - 05-19-2008 try a "save as" from within the utility, maybe? Re: PDF tip of the day: open password-protected PDF - Blankity Blank - 05-20-2008 If I recall correctly, Graphic Converter will ditch the password on some protected PDFs. It's been a long time since I tried it though. Re: PDF tip of the day: open password-protected PDF - TheTominator - 05-20-2008 I wonder how well File Juicer would work in this situation. http://echoone.com/filejuicer/ Edit: This page answers it. http://echoone.com/filejuicer/formats/pdf [quote Echo One web page] Encrypted PDF files Are not searched or decoded by File Juicer. If the PDF allow printing you can print to PDF and juice that one instead. Otherwise you need a PDF password recovering utility. |
