Can a refurb iphone be used with tmobile? - loveshine - 05-19-2008

Where can I get the best up to date info about options with an un-actvated AT&T refurb iPhone?
Tmobile has much better coverage in our area and I don't know who to trust on the legal, technical and warranty(potential harm) issues.
I recall reading about success that some were having using their iPhones on tmobile but I am wondering if there is a best way to do it and if it's reversible??
Do I have to activate it with AT&T first?

yes, it can.

As I understand it. . .You don't have to activate 1st.

. . .update firmware to the latest 1.1.4 (?) through itunes. . .

then unlock with the many unlocking softwares, most use ZiPhone. . .then slip t-moble sim into phone and it should work. . .and it should be reversible. . .

i just got the 16 GB refurb from at&t and it looks like new. . .

From my Googling it looks like iLiberty has good comments but before i do anything i wanted to get the full scoop. I hate it when I get in over my head. lololol

from what I've read both are good. . .most use ZiPhone but I've read a few that favor iLiberty over Ziphone. . .I think both are reversible. . .but I'm not an expert since I haven't unlocked yet but will try soon since I just got one of the refurbs. . .

read through the thread at fatwallet:

to get more info. . .

good luck.

Thanks for the fatwallet link.
From reading all 16 pages it appears there is a 1 year warranty not 90 days as stated on the web page and that iLiberty is "safer".
I am not clear if EDGE can actually be turned off but it's good to know that the phone will automatically connect and ring up charges. So to get a data plan instead of a surprise sounds like a smart move.

ZiPhone works great. Either way, it is easy to return the iPhone to its out of box condition. Put the phone in restore mode and use iTunes to restore it.
