Any thoughts on the Epson R1900? - Wags - 05-20-2008

Seems to be getting pretty good reviews. My photo printer's about 5 or 6 years old now and I'm ready to replace it.

What type of printing do you do? (color , b&w, CDs, large format, etc) I personally am steering folks away from inkjets to lasers, but that isn't always the best fit for people.

I've personally sworn off Epsons because of several experiences over the years, but the R1900 may be a good fit for you.

R1900 is pretty good for a home setup. Is this just for printing pictures taken with a point and shoot?

I dumped my big printer for a standalone Epson PictureMate Snap.
Only does 4X6's, fast, error free, small and cheap.
Paid about 40 bucks for mine, refurb at Epson.

Thanks for responses - here's some follow-up:

I've got a couple Epsons now but they are out of date. This one apparently produces archival prints that are supposed to last for many years. I've recently acquired a Canon XSi to take me a step past point and shoot and need a better printer that will make the transition as well. My main complaint with Epson over the years was the expense of the ink and the paper. I've generally been happy with the print quality of my Epsons. I hardly ever print something as small as 4X6, probably do 8X10's, or larger if the res. will allow. Haven't tried much B&W since my film days bit some could be in the mix. Also, the CD printer would come in handy occasionally.
