Safety of LAX shuttles? - Drew - 05-31-2008

My wife will be traveling alone and arriving at LAX in the evening. She needs to get to a hotel in Burbank, so I reserved a car (GoSedan) to take her there. I think that she will be the only passenger. However, she thinks that a shared van would feel safer, as there would probably be other passengers in the van, as opposed to the car. I've taken a shared van from LAX before and found that it took a long time to leave the airport, because the driver kept circling and waiting, hoping to pick up more passengers, before finally getting underway. The cost for the sedan is more, but not significantly so. I want her to have a comfortable ride and get to her hotel in a reasonable amount of time.

Any opinions about the safety of those drivers? We live out of the country and feel a bit out of touch with these kinds of things. Thanks.

Is she worried about traffic safety or personal safety?

If she's that worried about being alone with a uniformed driver in a limo from a well-known company, she must be paralyzed by the thought of staying in a hotel alone. "Out of touch" is a mild term. Do you live somewhere in eastern Africa?

My wife has cancer and is traveling to the US for surgery that cannot be performed here. She has a lot on her mind and is wondering about personal safety. If you can't offer decent advice, don't reply.

I'd feel better with a reputable car company than with the shuttle. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with GoSedan (usually use Carrey).

GoSedan is affiliated with PrimeTime Shuttle. I used PrimeTime last trip to LA, so they're the only company that I know. I'll look into Carrey as well. Thanks.

Drew, sorry to hear about your wife's cancer. Best of wishes to you and your wife. I hope that all will go well with her surgery. If you would appreciate prayers, I will pray for her. If you would appreciate good thoughts, they are on the way.

If she doesn't need to rent a car when here, then the shuttle makes sense.

You do have to consider a shuttle more of a bus and there may be frequent stops.
They get you there.

I 'm not familiar with LAX shuttles, but have used them in Miami and in Boston when I wasn't going to need a car.
Not quite as personal nor necessarily as fast as a cab.

I use Super Shuttle when arriving at LAX. Excellent service. They've been in business for years. My son, who lived in Glendale and worked in Burbank for 10 years (he's now living in Long Beach) has always used Super Shuttle.

Your wife will be safe no matter which method she chooses. It's really not an issue unless something truly bizarre happens. Mr. Downtown didn't mean to come off that way. It just sounds unreasonably paranoid at first read and he was just having some fun with you.
