Need help identifying PC memory (PICS- BW WARNING) - DRR - 05-31-2008
Trying to upgrade the RAM in my wife's Sony Vaio VGN-S260. There are two banks, one has 512 and the other is free. Great, I thought, double the RAM for not too much coin.
I looked up what type of memory it takes and I ordered from OWC. It came today, and it's too big. (Yes, I ordered an SO-DIMM for a notebook.)
So I double checked the specs online, and my OWC order, and from what I can tell, it should fit. But it clearly doesn't. So I need a little help.

Here is the dealram.com page whose memory identifier told me what type to buy:

And kingston.com agrees. So I bought it but it clearly doesn't fit.
Where did I go wrong??

It looks like to me is that your holding a stick of PC2700 SO-DIMM. The Vaio spec states that it uses PC2700 DDR SDRAM.
Do I win something if I'm right?::o

Wouldn't PC2700 DDR SDRAM be bigger? For a desktop?

DRR,
You have got to learn how to resize pictures!
Those are 13.33x20 inches at 72ppi.
I size things for the net or mail at 640x480 pixels at 72ppi.

I think you need 172 pin - not 200.

I couldn't find it on OWC site.

I know how to resize pictures, I needed enough detail for people to read labels in case that would help solve the problem. I put BW warning in the title for the reason that the photos were large.
I think you're right Fred_Also, after a little googling it looks like there's a (semi) proprietary 172-pin format. Which of course, costs twice as much.
