car aficionados - which should i buy... - enigma - 05-31-2008 my old van has 177600 miles and just lost a/c, so the wife wants a new hauler. the best options i have so far are: 07 kia sedona lx, 22,500 miles, former rental car, has balance of factory 5yr 60,000 warranty, cost $13500 04 honda odyssey ex-l 55,300 miles, 1 owner off lease, dealer will do 2yr 100,000 powertrain cost $15500? not finished negotiation (they still say $16000, but i haven't pulled out checkbook yet. the kia is a basic runner, the honda has climate control, power doors (which the wife is ambivalent about) and leather seats. any opinions and experiences welcome, and links to more data is appreciated. ugh i hate spending a few hours making decisions i have to live with for years! e Re: car aficionados - which should i buy... - N-OS X-tasy! - 05-31-2008 The Sedona gets great reviews, but I think the Honda is the winner in this case. The extra $2000 is buying you a lot over the Kia. Re: car aficionados - which should i buy... - M>B> - 05-31-2008 If it is a GOOD "old van", why not get the AC fixed? Bad time in the economy to spend that much cash or go into debt! Re: car aficionados - which should i buy... - beerman - 05-31-2008 Unless you are a mechanic a van with 176k miles on it will start to cost you more and more. You didn't ask if you should buy a new van, you asked which one was best. I agree with N-OS X-tasy! that if $2k is all that separates the two vehicles then the clear winner is the honda. It has a longer track record of being a quality auto maker. Re: car aficionados - which should i buy... - ztirffritz - 05-31-2008 Another vote for the Honda. Re: car aficionados - which should i buy... - M>B> - 05-31-2008 I made the above recommendation because I have a Toyota truck with 268,000 miles on it and I recently replaced the clutch. I am the original owner and I have taken good care of it and expect to get many more miles out of it! Re: car aficionados - which should i buy... - guitarist - 05-31-2008 Dang, I thought the subject was "Cigar Aficionados" Re: car aficionados - which should i buy... - davester - 05-31-2008 Honda hands down...always a sterling reputation. I wouldn't give the Kia a second look. Re: car aficionados - which should i buy... - simonm - 05-31-2008 According to a German wikipedia article the Kia Carneval/Sedona was the most unreliable vehicle in the TUV's reliability statistics. (TUV = German testing/certification organisation). I didn't look up the original TUV report however. There is probably an equivalent US article to look up. Re: car aficionados - which should i buy... - Grateful11 - 05-31-2008 The Honda, I wouldn't have to think about it. An '05 Kia owner at work had his Kia bought back by Kia because it would not pass the NC emissions test no matter what they did to it. He liked the vehicle but man you should hear his story of what he had to go through. |
