2 Way Radios. - spacescape - 06-02-2008 We need 6-8 Two Way Radios for our 250,000 Square Foot facility. We keep getting pushed to the Motorola CLS-1410 which are suppose to be very good. Anyone have any other recommendations or experience w/ the CLS-1410's? https://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.aspx?edc=684989&cm_mmc=sendtec-_-adwords-_-Electronics_Handheld-_-cls1410&SendTecID=9832460 Thanks. Bill They are very good. But what is your $$$ budget?? GMRS radios can be bought for next to nothing. BGnR Re: 2 Way Radios. - spacescape - 06-02-2008 I was looking at $50-$100 for a set of radios but then when I was talking to several people they were saying that 250,000 sq ft. manufacturing plant that we really need something a little more heavy duty. Am I wrong? Re: 2 Way Radios. - TLB - 06-02-2008 I thought commercial entities were not allowed to use GMRS for business purposes? Re: 2 Way Radios. - Racer X - 06-02-2008 if it is all inside one building, with minimal walls, GMRS is probably just fine. I'd be tempted to get a 3 pack from Costco and give them a trial run, and if they work, get 2 more 3 packs (a few spares, or you may decide you want more) If they don't work Costco will take them back. I was just looking at a 3 pack with charger base for I think $80? Re: 2 Way Radios. - Paul F. - 06-02-2008 Keep in mind the technical legal limitations of GMRS http://wireless.fcc.gov/services/index.htm?job=service_home&id=general_mobile You're supposed to have a license to operate GMRS radio's. 99.999% of people don't. It's really a legal "CYA" thing.. in case someone in your area complains to the FCC that you're using the GMRS frequencies illegally. OSHA and the Lawyers care, pretty much no one else does. Just something to be aware of, though. Re: 2 Way Radios. - BigGuynRusty - 06-02-2008 [quote TLB]I thought commercial entities were not allowed to use GMRS for business purposes? The FCC is pretty busy. Unless someone complains loudly, they don't care. BGnR Re: 2 Way Radios. - cbelt3 - 06-02-2008 You're a company, you want to stay legal. REALLY you want to stay legal. Go with the professional radios, or subscribe to a push to talk cell phone plan. However, as noted above, LOTS of businesses, large and small, use FRS and GMRS radios. And don't get hassled. So on the level of corporate offenses, this one is classed down with not sweeping your grass clippings out of the street after you mow your front yard. Re: 2 Way Radios. - spacescape - 06-02-2008 Thanks guys. Our building is less than 100,000 sq. ft. and our literature is wrong. DOH. However, 4-6 of these will be used out in the plant so we'd really like some nicer ones. However, maybe we should pickup some from costco and if they don't work then return them. ![]() Re: 2 Way Radios. - Racer X - 06-02-2008 I had forgotten about the licensing issue for a business, but it can't be that big of a deal. i remember getting my portable marine VHF license, without a boat, and it wasn't any more than what is my legit reason, and a basic test. the radio itself held the license, so any user was covered. |
