back up photos while traveling - Fritz - 06-03-2008 is there a small simple light solution to backing up photos for my Canon dig? Perhaps a way to transfer from the cameras chip to an outboard drive of some kind? Trying to avoid carrying a laptop. Re: back up photos while traveling - space-time - 06-03-2008 I think there is a special hard drive case with built in memory card slots, look for DataBank (IIRC). Alternative, carry lost of memory cards and shoot one each day on a new card, if something goes wrong you lose one day, not the whole vacation. Also, a few years ago Belkin had a similar device that downloaded memory cards to iPods. photobank, not databank... I would highly recommend you get 2 copies and mail on to yourself or a trusted recipient. I would travel with some pre addressed CD mailers for that purpose. I don't know it they would split a larger than a 512MB card over two or more disks? For me my largest card is 8GB so this is now a moot point for me. Re: back up photos while traveling - h linamen - 06-03-2008 If you're going to end up spending a considerable amount on a transfer option, wouldn't it be just as reasonable to buy additional media cards and leave the photos on each card. Just how many pictures might you be taking? Several 4gb cards will hold a lot of pics. Not speedy, and no picture preview, but it fulfills its purpose - it gives me a very portable way to backup my digital photos to another piece of media.
