Just picked up a 12/640PS on CL. Looking over the RAM specs, it seems the RAM from my old 7100/80 PowerMac would work. Before I go into the storage locker and tear the old 7100 apart, would appreciate some verification– I remember the 7100 not being fun to get at the RAM.

Are both 72-pin SIMMs? 7100 shouldn't be too hard, it was the 8500's that were the worst.

The 12/640 and the 16/600 take regular 72 pin chips. Non-EDO 16 MB chips.
Assuming the RAM is fine in the 7100, you should be set.

That's where I got the information from. According to MacTracker, they appear to be the same. I was hoping for a more definitive answer than "try it" I upgraded the RAM in the 7100 and I know how much of a pain in the a$$ it was (whole machine has to come apart)– I'd hate to go through it again if somebody here knows that they're not compatible.

So maybe that $1,300 I spent for four 32Mb chips back in the day will pay out, lol.
