The myth of rechargeables saving you money - Mac1337 - 06-03-2008
You know, everyone talks about how much rechargeables save you over the long haul. What they don't tell you is what else happens over the long haul: they get lost. I bought a pack of perhaps 20 AAs less than 6 months ago and can't find a single one around the house. What with teenagers, their friends and their bevy of controllers and remotes I am not surprised. The problem is of a different kind when I use them exclusively. They are never ready when I am.

I bought about 20 AA batteries for our office at work, and they paid for themselves in about 2 months. I bought a charger that will charge 8 batteries at one time and will deep cycle / refresh them. I set up a box that users drop their old batteries into. When I get enough I charge them and put the charged batteries in another container. It is obvious which ones are charged and which aren't. With all the wireless keyboards, mice, remotes it really helps.

My boys lose them to. CD players, remotes, wii motes, etc. All of mine are gone, I would expect them to lose them sooner or later and they have, I bet their wii mote rechargable battery with doc wont get lost.

The key is the ztff approach. Ensure that there are NEVER any disposable batteries in the house, and there is a recover and recharge process.
My kids kept tossing my rechargeables because we had disposables and recharge ables at the same time.

That charger sounds like just what I need! I must have 50 AA & AAA Ni-Mh batteries floating around my apartment!
Where did you get it and how much$$$?
