Buy a new scanner or pay for VueScan? - Mac1337 - 06-03-2008

I have an older CanoScan that is not supported under OS X but otherwise works fine. I don't have any machines that can boot in OS9 anymore so the decision is to pay for VueScan or buy a new scanner and if so which?

scanner quality has remained about the same. the next scanner you get will likely ave the same driver problems. i'd go with vuescan

Another option might be to check out this free, open source solution and see if it supports your scanner model.

I could never get sane to work and it really screwed things up for me.
I would hesitate to recommend it.

Go for Vuescan. I have a Canon Lide25 and it works great with Vuescan. Well worth it. Much better than the Canon drivers.

I avoided Vuescan for years.... I finally bought it a few months ago, and it was so worth it.

Get Vuescan.

The added benefit of Vuescan is that it will likely work with any other scanner you may find at a good price (or free). Also, consistency of interface if you have to change scanners again. Consistency is good when it comes to UI.

I use Vuescan with Canon Lide25 as well.

It's not the most graceful interface, but it works.
