Finally pulled the trigger on an iPhone... - laarree - 08-23-2008

My 2 year contract with Sprint ended last week, and I was sick of carrying around
an iPod, a cell phone, and a Palm PDA, and relying on Missing Sync to communicate
with the Palm. So I gritted my teeth, went to the Apple Store on West 14th Street
and 9th Avenue in New York City (halfway between where I work and where I live),
waited on a freaking line for 90 minutes or so, and left there with a 16GB 3G iPhone,
my Sprint account and cell phone deactivated, and the iPhone sync'ed with my
MobileMe account. It was quite a trip to stand in that line and watch the swirl of activity
in that store--it's quite busy, and it's quite a people-watching scene.

I just set up a smart playlist for the iPhone in iTunes, and will load it up momentarily...

I am in bed, posting for the first time from this little device, typing with my stubby fingers. :-)

In bed and stubby should be avoided in sentences.

No need to type with your stubby fingers. Take a look at Writing Pad.

I was gonna try 14th. 90 minutes! argh!
Think I'll wait for the rush to drop a bit or go at 8AM.

Are your calls staying connected? Since you're in the middle of 3G ......... one would hope.

I love writing pad, but there is no way to replace the default keyboard for other applications that I'm aware of. It only works for that one application which is primarily for taking notes or making lists and such.

The rush has been going on since July 11th. You may have awhile to wait...

Haven't made many calls yet, but will test today. In my Brooklyn apartment, it looks
like I get 5 bars, FWIW.

Edit :I'm in a cafe in my neighborhood, which is absolutely infested with iPhone users. I'm using Safari on 3G, at what seems to be a very reasonable speed. So far , so good. It's weird to use Safari without a menu bar or keyboard commands or cut-and-paste available.
