Anyone here tried a Vesper Martini? - guitarist - 08-29-2008

Those who have seen "Casino 'Royale" will remember when Bond ordered this drink, while playing no-limit poker, and the game was interrupted because everyone else at the table wanted to order one, too.

I saw the movie on DVD again last week, and was reminded again, made me curious if any brave and thirsty members have ordered one.

I used up all my drinking credits between 1979 and 1999 and don't anymore (be very grateful!) so I haven't, I'm counting on you guys to report on what they taste like.

Anyone here had one of these?

The Vesper Martini

3 oz Gin
1 oz Vodka
0.5 oz Lillet Blanc

Shake with ice and strain into a wine glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

No, but when I glanced at the subject my brain read "Vespa Martini". I thought you were asking about a new model for dotman to look at. Sad

Well, you know...it was that word "Vespa" in the other subject heading that reminded me of the Vesper Martini. LOL. So I'm not surprised you picked up the similarity and temporarily misread it.

For extra credit, in Google images, with safe search off, look up Eva Green, the lovely French actress who played Vesper in "Casino Royale"

WOW.

That'll make you thirsty.

Was the soundtrack to Casino Royale ever fixed?

The one on the DVD is in pretty bad shape. I don't know if it was the DRM or just really bad mastering.

Re: Anyone here tried a Vesper Martini? - guitarist - 08-29-2008

RAMd, did you get a bad disc?

Or was this said to be an issue with the whole release, all of them, the way the project was mastered?

I bought "Casino Royale" from Amazon recently, enjoyed it (in 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround) It's my favorite among the new movies I ordered. I watched all the way through only once so far, and didn't notice anything....maybe I'll go back and see if there are any audible flaws.

I had two different discs that had really bad spots in the audio.

Odd compression artifacts perhaps. I *assume* it was a bad run as one disc was from Amazon and one was from Sony.

High amplitude audio (explosions, crashes, shouting) in the 2-channel stereo tracks would suddenly drop in volume for a couple-three seconds, and then would return to the a normal level for not so loud sounds. That audio would be louder than the preceding explosions.

Some Amazon reviews complained about it, so it wasn't just me. Maybe I'll NetFlix it and see if it was fixed.

Ahhhhhhh... it's too early for that. Really.
