I feel better now. - We're On A Mission From God - maco - 09-03-2008

"Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God," she exhorted the congregants. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan."

Religion, however, was not strictly a thread in Palin's foreign policy. It was part of her energy proposals as well. Just prior to discussing Iraq, Alaska's governor asked the audience to pray for another matter -- a $30 billion national gas pipeline project that she wanted built in the state. "I think God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that," she said.

To be fair, she was making the address in a church, not in the general assembly. And, before anyone assumes I am a Palin supporter, I am not, not by any means.

From the same article quote above:

Three months before she was thrust into the national political spotlight, Gov. Sarah Palin was asked to handle a much smaller task: addressing the graduating class of commission students at her one-time church, Wasilla Assembly of God.

I don't see anything wrong at all about the first part. But the second seems a bit presumptuous on her part. kj.

Sales of ice cubes in Alaska must be down.
To sink so low one might actually pray for a good job.

Well, you consider raping the earth to be a good job, you shouldn't have a problem working as a prositute, or a hit man, or a drug dealer-- and the pay is actually better.

Church -- State -- I seem to remember something about those are separate. Something up there, ak, cobwebs!

This would be fine if a minister said it. Well, no, it wouldn't be fine even then. Fine is if, "let's pray to God that we may prevail" or something like that. That a politician said it is downright alarming. And dangerous.

You guys can't have it both ways. She's either small potatoes (and her historical actions and speeches as a result are gravy from a can) or she's not.

For the record, I don't think Obama's speechifying from his days as a 'community organizer' mean all that much either.

People change, evolve, adjust, and adapt. Who and what we are is not based on what we did or said years or months ago, it's based on what we are NOW and what we are working to be in the future.

The earth was raped where your house sits.

I'll have to take your word on the hit-man, prostitute, drug dealer trades.

[quote Palin]...our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God...
I don't think it matters that you're making this kind of statement in a church. It's uncalled for anywhere by an elected official. I could be wrong though. What are some similar analogs that we might find acceptable?

OK, might as well trash the rest of it and get it over with.
