It's finally dead ... our Emerson Cross Cut Shredder - kap - 09-20-2008 After 7 years, it breathed its last breath this morning. During this time frame, two times I had to revived it to keep it going. I bought the model/maker on the recommendations of the forum members when MRF was not in existence yet. So now I am seeking the same advice for a new shredder. TiA Re: It's finally dead ... our Emerson Cross Cut Shredder - GeneL - 09-21-2008 Maybe it's only faking its death???? Mavis' shredder got jammed an seemed doomed, It wouldn't move or make a sound, not even a hiccup. After a tedious job of pulling out every bit of paper that I could see, using a needle nose pliers, and then squeezing out a small stream of lubricating oil and leaving it unplugged for an hour, it suddenly came back to life. Staples sells a "special" oil for shredders. Probably nothing special about it? If there's no hope, then rest in peace. Seven years is a good life for a shredder, I think. Re: It's finally dead ... our Emerson Cross Cut Shredder - Yoyodyne ArtWorks - 09-21-2008 Olive oil has worked very well to lubricate our Fellowes shredder; it's cheaper and less flammable than many lubricating oils. Re: It's finally dead ... our Emerson Cross Cut Shredder - kap - 09-21-2008 Gene, It is really dead. I have taken it apart to clear obstacles, to clean and oil. It hiccuped back to life momentarily then pooh ... gone. It was a work horse. We went to OD, OM, Staples and Target. None carried the Emerson brand. Many store brands. I are looking for certain functions in a shredder. Might have to go for a $60 or higher model. Re: It's finally dead ... our Emerson Cross Cut Shredder - AlphaDog - 09-21-2008 What do you need a shredder to do besides shred? Here's a Fellowes on the Costco site. That's the brand I've been using for at least ten years. It keeps shredding, although when I was doing a huge shredding project a couple of weeks ago, I had to give it periodic rest breaks when it started to overheat. http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11183970&whse=BC&topnav=&browse=&lang=en-US&s=1 Re: It's finally dead ... our Emerson Cross Cut Shredder - kap - 09-21-2008 The same model and maker is sold at Target (closer to us; we're not CostCo members) for one dollar more. However, Target site doesn't indicate whether or not the device also shreds credit card and staples. The Cost co site does. Uh? Re: It's finally dead ... our Emerson Cross Cut Shredder - AlphaDog - 09-21-2008 According to the description: "The durable steel cutters also accept credit cards and staples." Re: It's finally dead ... our Emerson Cross Cut Shredder - kap - 09-21-2008 Agree! That is the description on the Costco website; not Target. But since it's the same model and maker we'll go for it. Target is 3 miles away from us. Cost Co is 10 miles. Thanks AlphaDog. Re: It's finally dead ... our Emerson Cross Cut Shredder - kap - 09-24-2008 Umm, Cost Co doesn't carry this model no more. So we'll be ordering online. |
