New DSLR from Leica 37MP? - papercup - 09-22-2008
Yet to be confirmed, but a bunch of sites have jumped on the totally new format/system from Leica, in-between a 35mm & medium format body.
37mp.
Crazy if true. Nikon was the rumored party to come out with a upsized DSLR shortly, the Leica beats them to it. Maybe.

Most of the sites seem to quote each other, nothing official from Leica, as of yet.

Looks nice but for what they might charge for body and lenses, it might be more practical to buy the larger chipped medium format sized cams such as the Hasselblad H3D series. That cam is straight up photo-eye candy-porn though.
I believe the upsized Nikon was supposed to be some sort of rangefinder.

I've rented the Hassey H3D a few times. It works great when tethered or on a tripod, but the SLR format is much easier to hand hold for most mobile shooting. (loved my 6x7 back in the day, even at the expense of the lesser Pentax lenses which were no match for Hassey)
If the Leica is not vaporware, i'll probably rent it the next time 'round. Can't wait.
Phase One should really be looking over their shoulder, there has never been much competition in this arena before.
I really would like to see the Nikon MX come to life as well.
Its a great year in digital cameras, thats for sure.

It will really depends on what size this thing is. Also, the samples I am seeing from this 21mp 5D mark 2 and Sony 24mp A900 look pretty good. While the Leica will undoubtedly be solid, I just don't know how many of these they will sell. WIll they stay in business selling the M8, this new cam and rebadged Panasonic point and shoots?

Wow, I was kinda thinking is was bull.
The price although high, is in line with the Hasselblad H3D-39 at roughly the same specs. (39mp)
The Hasselblad H3D-39 is a phenomenal camera, and the digital files are spectacular. Comparable to 4x5, or slightly better.

29,586.981 US$, I guess the buzz from this will die quickly in the 35mm DSLR/aps-c ranks on those forums.
