The red line represents Napoleon's army going towards Moscow. The black line is the same army, heading back.

The width of the line corresponds to the size of the army.

THAT is the chart I referred to in my note when you got the book. The lower graph is temperature above freezing. Note the correlation to army loss.

If Hitler had referred to that chart, he might have stayed the eff away from Russia.

Also the losses crossing the river, around 2/3 of the way back home.
