I think I get about 230 raw files on a 12mp camera with an 8gb card.

is there a size limit that the average D-SLR can't recognize beyond? i know some P/S cameras can't see above a 2 gig card.

Point and shoot cameras tend to use SD cards, which hit a ceiling at 2GB. Anything over that has to conform to the SDHC spec.
CF cards don't have that particular limitation, but I'm not sure if they will run out of room at 128GB like the older disk drive controllers.

I have an early P/S that uses CF, and tops out at 2 gigs. Must be FAT 16 cards.

I'm using 4gb CF's in my Canon S1 IS with no trouble.

I've got a 4gb in my Canon P&S, and it recognizes all of that SD.

I have a few 4 and 8 MB cards in my desk drawer here from the "old days."
