iMac 20: LCD Replacement - Tommie Milwaukee - 09-24-2008

I have a 20" Intel iMac with a cracked screen. It's not covered
under warranty, as it was an impact that caused the damage. I'm
looking for a way to get a replacement LCD screen without having to
spend $700-900. Does anyone out there know of any trustworthy
suppliers that sell these in single units? I've been able to find a
number of companies that do wholesale, but don't sell to consumers.
The part is LG Philips LM201W01-SLA3. The Apple part number is
661-3881. Any ideas?

My only suggestion would be eBay, or Craigslist. Find a similar mac with a dead logic board, just swap the parts you need.

get a second screen and run it from the imac?

And glue it on to the front of the iMac!

This is said to use the same panel as the white 20", if you can find one:

My home insurance would cover accidental damage, have you checked yours?

Being the adventurous guy that I am, I took the LCD out of a 20: G5 iMac and installed it in the 20" White Intel iMac. It doesn't work in the Intel, even though it's the same model display with the same connectors. Any ideas on why this would be?

hmm, maybe more than just the screen is damaged?

I think the G5 LCD has different specs--the video output internally is different, IIRC.

Just suck it up and buy an external monitor--the quality of the 20" LCD in the intel Imacs is cr@p, anyway.

The G5 uses a different type of video interface than the Intel iMac. The connectors are the same as you found out, but they won't work if swapped around. The Intel iMac panels are VERY hard to find. They aren't used in much of anything else. You need to look at the 3 digit identifiers after the part number to see which panel you need.

You are thinking of the Aluminum Intel iMacs. I assume his is a white one which had great video.
