Mail Issues - HELP!!! - kap - 09-25-2008 We still have not been able to send nor receive mail via Apple Mail (Mac) and Outlook 07 (Windows XP Pro). I kept re-checking the settings. I even re-created the accounts. No go. The call to VRZ tech support was a waste of time. Between his insistence on the screen-sharing, my telling him to give me the servers' settings; his telling me to call gmail or take the VRZ mail servers' settings, I just got fed up. In any event, any idea of what I should do next? TiA Re: Mail Issues - HELP!!! - GGD - 09-25-2008 What does the Connection Doctor in Apple Mail tell you? Re: Mail Issues - HELP!!! - kap - 09-25-2008 Connection Doctor?!! Didn't know there is such a thing. I just got this MBP with Leopard for merely 2 weeks. Running CDr now ... Re: Mail Issues - HELP!!! - kap - 09-25-2008 (green dot) SMTP.GMAIL.COM: Connection and login to server succeeded (red dot) Gmail: Connecting to server ... And it's stuck there. The Macs are able to send; not receive. The Windows can do neither. Do you think I need to use VRZ incoming mail server setting instead of Gmail? Re: Mail Issues - HELP!!! - MacMagus - 09-25-2008 > Do you think I need to use VRZ incoming mail > server setting instead of Gmail? No. Do you have an error log from Mail? What error does it show when you can't connect? ... I wonder if Verizon is deliberately blocking your access to Google's servers. What if you (temporarily) change your DNS setting in your Network pref's to the open DNS servers...? Does it work then? 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220 Re: Mail Issues - HELP!!! - kap - 09-25-2008 VRZ blocks access to Gmail server? It's a possibility. However, when I set up VRZ mail settings, it still didn't work. Re: Mail Issues - HELP!!! - MacMagus - 09-25-2008 > when I set up VRZ mail settings, it still didn't work. You need to give us more info. Run the Console.app from your Utilities folder. Select the Console Messages or console.log from the pane on the left sideof the Console window. (If you don't see a panel on the left side of the Console window then click on the "Show Log List" icon.) When you try to check your email, look in the Console.app for messages from Mail. What message does it show when you try to send or receive email? |
