$800-900 price point is fueling it. Can't do a MBP right now. Even a refurb ..

I'm really thinking about doing that with the Dell Mini-9. It does come with Ubuntu on it though, so might not even need to do that.

Just make sure there's a build of OS X that's known to work on whatever PC you buy before you buy it.

That's no deal - I can get a Acer Aspire One with virtually the same specs, but with a 120 GB hard drive instead of the 8 GB SSD for $350 at Best Buy or Microcenter.

Has Dell customer service improved any? I'm still rubbing my butt from my last Dell purchase 3 years ago.

Is loading OS X on intel machines now a resolved issue or is it still an underground cottage industry?

Dell customer service...there are no civil words to describe it....

Dell's quality control is horrendous. I buy high-end PC's for Air Force applications, and I've had one lot of Dell Precisions fail completely--all 17 units have had to have motherboard replacements.

"Back in the day" Dell had great customer service. When I was working at the Apple support center in Austin about 15 years ago, we could tell Dell was going places; they were hiring away all the best support reps from Apple. Pretty obviously, things have changed...
