Autumn—bandwidth warning - blooz - 10-18-2008

The past weekend was the peak moment for fall foliage here in Western Massachusetts. Here's a few pics I took.

My panorama skills are a little rough, but here's a view from Bear Swamp reservation in Ashfield, MA. That's Vermont in the distance.

The town of Ashfield has a great fall festival/ craft fair on Columbus Day weekend. Of course there are performers and this is Zoe Darrow, a local 18 yr old fiddle player. Think Cape Breton and Natalie McMaster as influences. She's a great performer and those interested in that kind of music watch out for her.

Just an old log in the woods. I love the colors that appear in the autumn. It's either nature's way of compensating us for the coming winter or her way of softening us up for the kill.

In near-by Shelburne Falls there is a spot known as the potholes. There used to be a falls here, where the natives had a designated peace area where members of various tribes could hang and hunt without getting an arrow in the gizzard. Since the Deerfield was dammed up, the action of hard rock on softer rock has been revealed.
It used to be a great swimming place until the town got worried about lawsuits and the emergency crews got tired of hauling out of there overweight drunks who broke a leg or banged a head.

That dark area on the upper left is a spot where I have jumped in feet first with the idea of going down fast and finding the bottom. i never did.

Re: Autumn—bandwidth warning - Black Landlord - 10-18-2008

Only the first two images show, Blooz. Looking forward to the rest.

Re: Autumn—bandwidth warning - blooz - 10-18-2008

yeah so am I. Don't know what's going on. I made another post.

Re: Autumn—bandwidth warning - lafinfil - 10-18-2008

The forum didn't like the image tags from imageshack for some reason
I just copied and pasted the URL's and added new tags

Not sure why it didn't work before

: -?

Re: Autumn—bandwidth warning - lafinfil - 10-18-2008

First - Nice photos Mr B !!

: -)

secondly - not sure what is going on here.

I tried to edit your post and insert the same tagged URL's that I used in my post of you photos
and they still would not show up when I previewed. Very strange ...

nice panorama...I'd like to see a larger version.

Here's the culprit (I added the space following the left square bracket):

There is no right square bracket to end the URL item, nor is the URL completed beyond the imageshack site server. There is no [ /url ] (without spaces) terminator. I guess the phorum code disables further bracketed item processing until it finds a terminator, or message is ended.

Here's what we should have seen:

Shelburne Falls also has the Bridge of Flowers just upstream of the potholes (other side of the Bridge Street (MA Rte 112) bridge. There's always something flowering there until the killing frosts set in. Last year about this time it was full of blooms; this year, I don't know, it's been unseasonably chilly.

Do a Google Maps search for "Shelburne Falls, MA" and look at the photos that show up in the left side panel to see the Flower Bridge and the Potholes...

BTW, Blooz, very nice pix you posted! Thanks!
