One of my friends was walking around school with these odd looking headphones, just saying to people "Put them on".
Wow. These 'phones are simply the best audio quality I have ever heard. I'm amazed.
A pair is now on order for me.

They're some solid performers.
I'm guessing they were on an iPod or other MP3 player?
Last I checked, the Grado 80s were a little low on sensitivity for 'Pods, but the 60s were excellent.

they take a long time to break in, and not the most comfy for extended listening, but they do have good sound
i traded up to a set of senn 555s ($80 on sale) -- 1000X more comfy and i love the single (replaceable) cable

Back in my early years of college (not too many years ago) I purchased a pair of Sennheiser HD580s. I nearly cried the first time I heard them. Still got 'em, still like 'em. Happy listening! Do be careful with headphones and listening levels: good headphones don't distort like we're used to hearing cheap speakers distort at high-levels, so it's easy to turn it up beyond safe levels.

I was given a pair of 125's for my birthday last year and I have been very pleased with them, including use with my ipod. Very good sound for the money. The only downside is they are pretty much worthless on an airplane.

I have a pair of SR60's - they're a pretty decent set of inexpensive headphones.
I also have a nice Grado cartridge on my turntable...

True, but that's an advantage around the home since you can hear the phone ringing or your wife yelling.

NO-X, that cracked me up!
The Grados are more comfortable than they were in years past and the ear pads can be retrofitted to old Grados (assuming there are any with the original, early pads left). But they sit on the ears and not around them, so for me listening time would be severely limited.
I have a pair of Senn 580s and like them a lot. I've got to replace the cable though.
I'm *still* looking for a pair of "closed" circumaural 'phones in the 580/650 class. There are times when you know that the gunshots aren't really that close and between the Lexan and Kevlar, you can kick back without breaking out your own iron. Times like those you want to isolate the extraneous noise. Nothing ruins a mood like having a gentle passage from Scheherazade peppered with gunfire.
