Recs on places to buy media? - mspace - 10-18-2008 What are the current best places to buy media? Looking for dvd dual layer discs. Never worked with them before. While one need a burner that can burn DL, can any dvd drive read DL? Why would I get -r or +r? Any rules of thumb on that issue? Any links with simple, easy info to clarify the choice? Thanks muchly . . . Re: Recs on places to buy media? - Robert M - 10-18-2008 ms, I stick with supermediastore.com. The prices tend to be good and they sell quality media. When it comes to double-layer media, I only use Verbatim DVD+R DL. I had nothing but trouble with other brands. As for DVD-R DL, I wouldn't go near it at all. I tried it a couple of times and it resulted in a nightmare. No compatibility with any of my DVD players. These days, if someone gave me DVD-R DL media for free, I'd toss it in the garbage and shell out the bucks for DVD+R DL media. Robert Re: Recs on places to buy media? - PeterW - 10-18-2008 Check prices with meritline.com. They sell the same products as supermediastore and which one I go with depends on what's on sale and who has free shipping that week. Totally agree with Verbatim as the best DL media out there, RiData is iffy at best and Memorex is just awful. Re: Recs on places to buy media? - jdc - 10-18-2008 peter and i have the same exact shopping habits =) Re: Recs on places to buy media? - OWC Jamie - 10-18-2008 I disagree on the Ritek complaint. I've had excellent luck with the slower Ritek media, G04 8X, very reliable, hub printable, can't complain at all about it. Re: Recs on places to buy media? - PeterW - 10-18-2008 Single layer Ritek media is great; it's their DL stuff that really stinks on ice or is top notch. And there's no way of telling which is which until you try burning some. Re: Recs on places to buy media? - Silencio - 10-18-2008 Some older DVD drives can't read DL media. The combo drive in my old PowerBook G4 can't read DVD+/-R DL discs. Definitely stick with Verbatim for any DL discs you end up buying. Good stuff. I mostly buy from Supermediastore, but have bought from Meritline in the past and been satisfied. |
