I wish our driveway were made of asphalt, not concrete - Greg the dogsitter - 10-18-2008

Because this looks like an awfully neat solution to our sinking-driveway problem:

Are you saying that your concrete is sinking? If so, all of it or part of it?

The part closest the driveway. We know a nice man who will fix it for $$. :-)

I wish my driveway was made of concrete, not asphalt. Smile

I just had the paving guy out last month to give me an estimate for repairing my (huge) asphalt driveway. The bottom line is, there's no inexpensive way to fix driveways. The cost for repairing the sunken and/or cracked areas is $4.25 per square foot. For that, you get patches. Next spring, the entire driveway would then have to be seal coated, which will blend the old surface with the new. Without the seal coating, think of the ugly patches on highways. The bid for repairing and seal coating mine is about $4,000. I was going to have it done, but the economy started tanking before I signed any contracts. That's the only break I've had lately, and now I'll just be living with my crappy looking driveway for quite a while longer.

I think black top is ugly.

So do I, but the thing is too big to replace. Mine will accommodate nine cars. Full size cars. Heck, throw in a truck or two and you can still park eight.

Wow! This is a problem I've had for a while now and I've been looking for a neat way to fix it. Water tends to collect in the depression and is actually making its way under my door sill and into the garage. I think I'm going to give this a try in the spring. Thanks Greg tds!

If it's just sinking and not deteriorating wouldn't be cheaper to get one of
those foundation company's to raise it with pressurized grout underneath?

Mud Jack it. by the time you buy the pavers and the sand the cost might be the same. Pavers are at least $1 each.

You could do the same with concrete, you just use a different blade to cut it. But the mud jack approach might be about the same cost as mark... points out.
