NEC has released a new model http://www.nec.co.uk/ND4570.aspx and it does 5X DVD-RAM.
The NEC ND-4570A features:
DVD-RAM read and write 5x
Supports DVD±R at 16x
Supports DVD±R DL writing at 8x/8x
Supports DVD+RW/DVD-RW writing at 8x/6x
Supports CD-R/RW writing at 48x/32x
Supports Bitsetting on DVD+R DL media (sets auto. BookType to DVD-ROM)
Reads DVD-Video SL/DL at 16x/12x
New 8x writing method on DVD±R speeds up the burning process.

The bad news, can't find it offered, anywhere. But the older ND-3550A is being sold at 'fire sale' prices now ::o

Anywhere to buy that ND-3550A on an extreme "fire sale?" The best I found on froogle was $37 + ship.

5X DVD-RAM really isn't that special. The LG GSA-4167B I bought several months ago does that, as well. Now if only I could find some 5X-capable DVD-RAM media instead of the more common 3X...

I just got the LaCie Lightscribe burner from OWC. Expect a review of it soon. Initial impressions: I'm impressed.
