I recently purchased the OWC Mercury Elite-AL FW800/400 Pro RAID Dual-Drive Enclosure Kit for up to Two IDE/ATA Hard Disk Drives (OWCMEFW912AL2):

I've got 2 Maxtor PATA hard drives (160GB & 120GB, both Mac formatted w/data on them).
The enclosure comes from OWC in a Hardware RAID 0 configuration. I changed the configuration (using the software linked to on the above product page) to Single Drive (2 drives installed / 2 separate drives mounted on the desktop).
I'm curious as to what I should set the drives to. From what I could glean in the following thread (though it didn't exactly apply to my situation because they wanted to use it in a RAID 0 configuration):

I should probably set one drive to Master and the other to Slave.
1) Is this correct?
2) Does it matter which drive (the first one on the cable or the last one) is set to Master/Slave?
3) What if I set the first drive to Master and the second to Cable Select?
I should probably ask OWC Tech Support these questions, but they are closed.

I've got the same enclosure, though I use mine in RAID 1 mode (though I doubt which mode you use it in matters). The "bottom" drive (or the drive connected to the end terminal) is the master, the top drive is the slave.

Thanks brotha', I actually had it reversed (but hadn't reassembled the case or powered it up yet). Everything appears to be working great!

$90 case for $29 worth of drives =)
been years since i did mine, but 99% sure i did both cable select
