Still looking for that elusive shredder - kap - 12-17-2008

This one looks good, http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8390136&st=shredders&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1179877038144
Had this,http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11183970&whse=BC&topnav=&browse=&lang=en-US&s=1. Choked after one month of usage.
Only needs one that will shred papers, CCs and CDs into micro cut.

Very happy with this one: http://www.amazon.com/Fellowes-32177-Powershred-PS-77Cs-Shredder/dp/B000H6B4KM/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1229498063&sr=8-1

... almost certainly you can find a better deal on it elsewhere though.

I love the brand Fellowes and have found at good sales. Have an electric one and a battery one (same brand that I have had good use from.

Sam,
I have told many good things with Fellowes. So I got one from Costco. Didn't take long for it to suffer and we were careful not to do so. You have better luck with the brand than we did Smile

I guarantee you this can shred CDs or even credit cards.

Dakota, does that come in an office-size that could fit under my desk? :-)

I don't understand what you mean when you say it "choked." I have a Fellowes that's been going strong for years, and I've shredded boxes and boxes and boxes of old papers with it. I do have to let it rest every once in a while, as mine now has a tendency to begin to heat up under heavy use. Otherwise, it just keeps plugging along. What exactly are you asking the thing to do?

Alpha,

I'm with you on Fellowes. I tried other brands including those offer under the OfficeMax and Staples names and they don't hold a candle to the Fellowes models. When it coems to using shredders, there are two things to remember. Only shred items for about twenty or so minutes at a time. Shredders heat up and most of the ones you can get at Staples and such aren't intended for use under longer periods of time than about twenty or so minutes of straight usage. Also, you must clean and oil the blades regularly. It'll ensure good shreds and prevent clogging. That and spend the bucks for one of the heavier duty models. A shredder like the 57CS is a toy compared to the 77CS and higher rated models. I wouldn't waste my time with it, even for light duty shredding.

Alpha, it worked quite well for the first two weeks. Still, even at the beginning it could not shred more than 4 sheets of 20# papers at a time__less than advertised. It never bellowed out smokes but it got jammed quite often after the initial two weeks. The last few days, it just got worse. I had to put it down.

Robert,
I am going for the 77Cs recommended here Smile
Found one at buy.com for $105

Good to go then?

I suppose I should treat mine to a bit of oil one of these days. I know they make special oils for that, but would something like good old 3-in-1 do it? I really don't care if my shredded paper gets a bit dirty! Smile
