It seems there is a dog called Racoon Dog in Asia and the Chinese skin these animals alive ( you will find a sicking video) or at best label the fur coats rabbit, etc etc legal furs to import.
All the majors from Neimans to Pennys are being brought to task for importing and mislabeling the fur garments.
Can you imagine finding out your fun fur coat was DOG? makes me sick sick.

I think the difference is the response a dog gives to humans. Personality. Rabbits are cute but they are not a comopanion, an extention of ourselves, like dogs and cats...Ok PeterB....and Hampsters!

With sheep they just cut off the wool, the animal is unharmed. Shearing is not the same as skinning.

i know some folks who keep rabbits who would beg to differ. YOU may not have experienced the companionship of animals other than dogs or cats but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I'll go out on a limb here and guess that mink and chinchilla find being skinned alive just as painful as dogs do. I'll also guess that they have just as strong a desire to live.

Completely wrong. Rabbits make very good pets, are very social, and make great companions. They also get along famously with cats. My boy (looks like this http://www.4everfriendsrabbitry.com/) was a rescue and loves to play tag and does a little dance when I walk in the room.
