MacBook repair - no trouble found - DavidS - 12-17-2008 On Monday, my MacBook (late 2007), was shipped out from the nearby store due to a problem with the MagSafe connection. For the last week, it had not been registering as being connected to the power adapter. It will not charge at that time. The Apple Store Genius ran it through tests and WAS able to duplicate the problem in the store. I just checked the repair status online and it's listed as "No Trouble Found." I assume that means that they were unable to duplicate the problem. If it continues to happen, though, what are my options? Just repeat the same procedure at the store and have them ship it out again? Fortunately, the Apple Store Genius had the same issues that I did; I just wish the repair facility did too. Re: MacBook repair - no trouble found - Racer X - 12-17-2008 keep on them. If the in-store genius has seen the issue, don't let them blow you off. After a number of attempts, they will probably give you a new machine. Probably an upgrade. The magic number is 3 or more repairs. I would assume numerous repair attempts on the same machine for the same issue would count. This is a customer relations issue, outside the normal repair chain. I had a 3rd gen 10 gig refurbed iPod replaced 3 times, the 3rd one was DOA btw. The dreaded "skipping" issue with the 3rd gens. I ended up with a 30 gig 5th gen video after working with their customer relations people. Re: MacBook repair - no trouble found - mattkime - 12-17-2008 in all fairness, if its an intermittent problem, they might not have seen it. Re: MacBook repair - no trouble found - RAMd®d - 12-17-2008 in all fairness, if its an intermittent problem, they might not have seen it. Agreed. It happens. At least it's documented. That might allow you to get warranty work even after it (the warranty) expires. Hopefully your problem will be resolved long before then. Apple Care seems in order. Re: MacBook repair - no trouble found - rgG - 12-17-2008 Did you send the power brick with the MacBook, or did they use a different one at the repair facility? Maybe it is a problem with the power brick and not the MacBook, just a thought. Re: MacBook repair - no trouble found - DavidS - 12-17-2008 The problem was intermittent for me, so I assume that the repair guys were not able to reproduce it. That doesn't mean that it doesn't happen, though. I already have AppleCare, so at least I'm covered for another 2+ years if it continues. My first thought (and hope) was that it was the power brick and I did take it with me to the store. It worked fine. The Genius was able to get the same problem using 2 of his power adapters on my computer. He also checked out the battery and it was working fine. He used a specific term to describe what part he thinks is going bad. I don't have the paperwork in front of me to reference, though. Last year, I had a similar problem with a Sony AV Receiver that I bought 4 years prior at Circuit City. I had bought the extended warranty with it. They were unable to reproduce the problem but it was consistent for me. I sent it in 3 times for repair and spoke with the guys at the repair center directly. I exhausted all other possibilities that could be causing it and finally sent in video/audio recordings on a CD-Rom with proof of what was happening. They allowed me to exchange it for a brand new Onkyo receiver, which was a huge step-up in features (as would be expected over 4 years). Re: MacBook repair - no trouble found - Acer - 12-17-2008 Isn't the standard repair for such stuff just to replace the the whole logic board? That's what they did when I sent my old iBook in for a broken ac port. They ought to at least do that if they can't find the specific problem. Re: MacBook repair - no trouble found - kurtzie - 12-18-2008 I sent in a G4 Powerbook that kept having Kernel Panics. It came back with "no problem" found. Afterwards it has been completely stable ever since, my future MIL now uses it. The repair tech at FirstTech seemed to think that Apple replace the logic board, but listed it as no problem found to have a better record of quality. Hopefully your laptop will come back working like a charm. Steve |
