I don't understand why anyone would remove a file they could just ZIP and it is always there for expansion later on.

Hmmm... I'm not having THAT particular problem, but I am having sort of a related one. I have so many apps installed on my various hard drives, that whenever I use the "Open With", or do a Get Info and then use the pulldown menu to try to get the item to open with a different app, I get a SBOD that lasts for a good five minutes, usually requiring me to force quit the Finder. Maybe someone here knows a solution to this. (Removing all my apps is NOT a possibility.)

BGnR, because I have multiple drives with different OS's on 'em. When you do an "Open With", it even includes all the OS9 apps that something can be opened with, too.

BGnR, why WOULDN'T you have different OS's on different volumes?
That allows you to boot into different OS versions, which allow you to use version-specific software... for example, stuff that will only run in OS9, or in 10.3 but not 10.4, etc.
And if you're only talking OS9, I have tons of OS9 apps. When I do an "Open with" in OS9, I do get a ton of options too. Now add to this all the options in OS X, and there are a LOT of options.

BGnR (and anyone else), if you're curious, I just solved my own problem through this post:

... the problem is/was at least partially that there were many, many duplicate items in my list. (I still do get a ton of things to open, say, a JPEG with-- but at least it doesn't send me into a spinning beachball whenever I do it...)
