Mail App Sounds not working and dumb fix (IMO) - celliott - 12-17-2008
I searched the Forum but didn't find this, so thought I'd chime in (pun intended).
It now seems that for some after updating to 10.5.6 that Mail app no longer plays it's sounds (new mail, sent mail, etc) unless the Play user interface sound effects box is also checked in the Sound sys prefs.
It never worked that way before. Some are saying the old way was a bug that is now fixed. But why wouldn't Mail be able to play its own sounds? Other apps play sounds without the effects box checked. I like the Mail sounds, especially the swoosh when sending as it confirms the process was completed. But I don't like all the other goofy sounds when I click on files, empty the trash, etc. Apparently now enabling the sounds in the Mail preferences is not enough.
Anyone else have the same problem. Any other fix or thoughts?

I have no solution but I agree with you--if that's what Apple has done, they've made a mistake.
