Anyone Interested In Picking Up A (potentially) Cheap G5? - The Grim Ninja - 12-17-2008

You may remember a few months ago I posted about a large amount of cheap 1.6Ghz G5s on ebay, well..

There's another seller on ebay with a bunch of G5s all ending at once.

Since they're all ending at once, it's very likely that any sniping will be spread out among them and that several will slip through real cheap. There's no guarantee of course, but this is the sort of stuff I look for when I want a deal.

The 2Ghz systems are, of course, duals. The 1.8Ghz systems could be single or dual.

I would recommend that if any of you are hoping to snipe one, you place 'dibs' on it to hopefully limit competition from other forum members. Post back if you win!

Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated, blah blah, I don't benefit, ect.
I have, however, bought things from affiliates of this place in the past. They do a pretty good job packaging, though they're not always the greatest at getting the specs right. I received two incorrect systems in the past, but they did make things right and even paid return shipping for the incorrect systems.

I seemed to recall a number of forumites benefitted because of your previous post.

Thanks for the heads up !

what do you think the price range of the 2.0s will go for?

I wonder what year of release these are?

It's really impossible to guess what they'll end for because there are too many unknowns to predict for (how many people have seen them, how many will go after, which system will be most popular, ect)

A quick completed items search shows that dual 2Ghz G5s go for $400-900 shipped. Without knowing more about the systems, it's hard to say what they're actually worth. Also, I wouldn't rely completely on their specs, meaning they may have different memory installed, different video cards, ect. If you do end up with a significantly lesser system, you can send it back. I've also had luck with a partial refund for a damaged motherboard.

My advice would be to check out other systems, pick a number, pick an item number, snipe, and hope for the best.

(That's where claiming an item number comes in, if you snipe you don't want another forum member going after the same system and inflating the price).

Good luck boys and girls. I am not buying any more PPC Macs, as tempting as it is!

Do I really need a new PPC Mac? No, but a Dual G5 would be a step up.

Thankfully, someone outbid me. Not worth $300, by the time you ram it up, add a hard drive....

$300-360 final prices. Those seem pretty cheap, anyone win one?
