While I hate to make a blanket statement on a company, I've only read terrible
things about MacMall recently (as far as business practices like rebate refusal,
return refusal, etc.). It would make me think twice abut purchasing anything from them.

I was a bit nervous about the MacMall stories, too. But I ordered my MBP from them in early November, along with a bunch of free-after-rebate(s) accessories, and got the order with no problems. And five of the six rebates showed up in my mailbox yesterday.

(My 2.4 glossy MBP was $1349. I gambled that they'd sell out before the price dropped any further, and lost. What really stings, though, is the $1449 2.5's -- I wasn't willing to shell out an extra $200 for double the cache and VRAM, but for $100 over what I paid, I would've jumped on it.)

No regrets over passing on the unibody MBPs, even after disassembling mine to upgrade the HD.

The same price is available at PC Connection/Mac Connection. I got mine last week. Haven't mailed the rebate yet, but the shipping was FAST. Used their Free Shipping offer. Shipped same day, at my door in 2 business days.

I think these are probably the hottest mac deal around right now. Factoring in sales tax, it was only $288 more than the MB 2.4 refurb from Apple. (Edit: assuming the rebate comes through!)

Last I looked they had both matte and glossy screens at $1299 AR. From what I recall, MacMall charged more for matte. The 2.5 was $1550 when I was shopping and I wasn't going to pay $250 more for it. I would have done it for $100 also.

jeffB:

How was the HD upgrade?

Mine has a 200 right now. Eventually I'll probably buy and install a 500, but I have a 320 on my desk right now. Was the job a bear enough that you'd suggest just doing it once, or no big deal?

Did you ever do an iBook? How does this compare?

macmall also charges tax to CA, macconnection does not

wish i had a spare $1500 floating around for one of these... but even then im not sure what i would really do with it...
