Can i Fix this Santas Workshop with Fiber Optic light that is out? - Microman - 12-18-2008 Have this Costco purchase from a year ago. It is a 10 inch high Santas Workshop. Last year the individual lights that make it look so neat, all burnt out. I took the bottom off, and can see a small light that is used to light the optical cables that looks like a projector light (small almost the size of a nickle or dime) I assume this light may be burnt out, since it is not working. Do you think this sort of light would be available anywhere? and if so where? I was thinking of returning this item, since it failed so quickly last year, and since it is the season, it would be the right time. Wife really likes this thing, but would like to fix it to get its great beauty. Pulled the bulb. Says MR8 12V10W I suppose if I put a continuity tester across the two pins and get no Circuit, it may be bad? Yep that would tell you if the bulb is bad. You might also have to measure voltage on the socket to make sure that the transformer is good too. MR8 12V10W MR8 is the bulb type and it is 12 volt and 10 watt so you shoild have 12 volt at the socket. It shouldn't be too hard to find a replacement - here's a quick search http://www.bulbman.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=5171_6331 Re: Can i Fix this Santas Workshop with Fiber Optic light that is out? - iaJim - 12-18-2008 Probably available elsewhere too, but it is here: http://www.bulbconnection.com/ViewItem/bcrw/itmid/1966/oc/MR-8%20%2012V%2F10W/item.html Re: Can i Fix this Santas Workshop with Fiber Optic light that is out? - vicrock - 12-18-2008 Have you checked with your local Costco to see if they have it in stock? If so, I'd return and get a new one - unfortunately, this type of thing tends to be a "one time purchase" and they never get it again. So if your wife likes it, fixing may be your only option. Don't forget to check the fuse. Lots of these lighted decorations have a fuse in the plug. |
