Any good/bad things to say about Geico? - Will Collier - 02-03-2009 No, I don't mean the commercials. I just ran an auto insurance quote on their site, and it's half of my current premium (and I'm not crazy about my current insurer). Any experiences? Re: Any good/bad things to say about Geico? - Z - 02-03-2009 Haven't done me wrong up here in AK. Actually was with someone else before and had a Geico-insured truck hit my front end. Was a smooth and relatively painless process. Their initial offer was much closer to what I was hoping for than I thought it would be on a well maintained 16 year old car (at the time). Re: Any good/bad things to say about Geico? - Carm - 02-03-2009 Talk to an insurance broker that deals with many insurance companies, they usually are able to find you the best deal. Some insurance companies quote you one price then jack it up later. Claiming that the quote was based on different age, marital status, deductable, etc.... Happened twice to me. Bunch of BS. No problems with my insurance broker. Joe Re: Any good/bad things to say about Geico? - Filliam H. Muffman - 02-03-2009 I have no experience of having them deal with the results of an accident. You need to make sure the coverage levels are exactly the same in each category. They tend to give lower rates to people with more education and driving records that seem to be pristine. Re: Any good/bad things to say about Geico? - nwyaker - 02-03-2009 20 years with them. Never a problem on a claim. Adjuster came to my work site when requested, wrote check on the spot for damage. Easy to change / delete coverage on their website. I have no affiliation with GEICO, other than as insured. My local independent agent ( with whom I have house coverage ) could not beat their coverage / price on auto policies. Re: Any good/bad things to say about Geico? - olnacl - 02-03-2009 Every couple years I do a check on my auto insurance and so far have never found anyone that could beat my current insurer, State Farm. I have a flawless driving record but, as mentioned above, when I pin them down to exact comparisons all those 'save $250.00" turn out more like SPEND $250.00 if you come with us. We are screwed down here in S FL on all insurance. I wish there were better choices. Re: Any good/bad things to say about Geico? - graylocks - 02-03-2009 GEICO 30+ years. i've given up shopping rates because no one ever bests them for my particulars. had maybe four claims over the years with nary a complaint. they discount for good FICOs and defensive driving certification. btw, while their auto rates are competitive GEICO homeowner rates are not even when bundled with the car. Re: Any good/bad things to say about Geico? - Fritz - 02-03-2009 GEICO has done us well for 20 plus years. Re: Any good/bad things to say about Geico? - MacManMaz - 02-03-2009 Insurance is very variable from state to state. Here in NY, GEICO couldn't come close to my current policy with Hartford. Make sure that you are comparing Apples to Apples with identical coverage. I often wonder how a company that spends so much on advertising can save you money, They must have a huge ad budget. Re: Any good/bad things to say about Geico? - ztirffritz - 02-03-2009 I had them for a bit, but when I had an accident it took them 13 months to pay up. In the meantime, my car was totalled and I was making monthly payments on the car even though it was sitting in a scrap yard. I'm probably the exception, but it was not a pleasant experience.
