~400 of you people really cheese me off! - Seacrest - 03-18-2006 http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/view.php?StoryID=20060317-063848-7672r Fifty-seven percent of Americans admit to having personal reasons for not using turn signals while driving. A recent survey of 1,000 adults, conducted by Response Insurance, found 23 percent of drivers admit they are just plain "lazy," while 17 percent don't signal because when they do, they forget to turn off the blinker. Twelve percent said they change lanes too frequently to bother with signals; 11 percent say signaling is unimportant; 8 percent say they don't signal because other drivers don't -- and 2 percent say they don't have enough time. A surprising 7 percent said driving without signaling "adds excitement." Re: ~400 of you people really cheese me off! - rgG - 03-18-2006 I actually heard that on the radio yesterday. I think I live very near most of that 57%. ![]() Re: ~400 of you people really cheese me off! - decocritter - 03-18-2006 I can't stand folks that don't use their signals Re: ~400 of you people really cheese me off! - Gutenberg - 03-18-2006 The second-to-the-last turn on the way home is treacherous. There's a guy with a pickup truck who sells vegetables on the corner who parks all the way up to the corner, and then there's the people who double park to run into the liquor store, and then there are the people who decide to turn with no warning whatsoever and then stand on the brakes because of the vegetable guy and the double parkers. Ick. What's with lazy? Too lazy to pull an itty bitty lever? That's really lazy. Re: ~400 of you people really cheese me off! - x-uri - 03-18-2006 No one answered "Why should I signal, I always turn there."? When I lived in Raleigh the local giveaway ran a contest for a city motto. One of my favorite entries; "Come to Raleigh, give your turn signals a rest." During a brief stay in St. Louis, I noticed that the drivers there were almost as bad as North Carolinians about refusing to use turn signals. When I ask a colleague about this, he explained that you needed working turn signals to pass vehicle inspection and using them too often would make them burn out faster. I would have guessed that he was putting me on, except that he had no sense of humor. Re: ~400 of you people really cheese me off! - blooz - 03-18-2006 I've seen a bumper sticker here in the Happy Valley which says "Visualize using your turn signals." If you want to know why I call it the Happy Valley, just visualize a place where people would have bumper stickers with the word "visualize" on them. Re: ~400 of you people really cheese me off! - decocritter - 03-18-2006 In Atlanta the theory is "use the signal to change lanes and you are tipping the other drivers off to your intentions- then they just speed up and don't let you in". The sad thing is it is true. So no one uses the blinkers and they change lanes like banchees. I have noticed that a good many people let me change lanes in my beetle as opposed to other cars I have driven here. They smile and wave me over. They must like the car or they feel sorry for me because they know I am driving a lemon. Re: ~400 of you people really cheese me off! - Stephanie - 03-18-2006 With the way people drive here in NM, I think turn signal usage must be illegal. That & Driver's Ed. Re: ~400 of you people really cheese me off! - sscutchen - 03-18-2006 I always use my signals on the freeway. For example, when I want to change lanes left, I put on my right blinker. Then I fake right. When everyone goes to block me, I dive left. Actually what bugs me way more is driving with parking lights on. It's like "I know you could see me if I had my headlights on. But let's see if you can see me if all I have is my freaking parking lights on!" Re: ~400 of you people really cheese me off! - spearmint - 03-18-2006 I always use mine way in advance but there seems to be a theory here in Cally that why tip your enemy what you are going to do. Most ridiculous thing I ever heard was in San Hosie Medicore News yesterday was somebody thought they were broke because they did not come on automatically. People here must never have taken Driver's Ed. |
