Do I need to buy The Fifth Element again? - lipskidder - 03-12-2009
Since I got my PS3, I am now in the world of Blu-Ray. I am considering my purchases carefully and love my Bruce Willis flick. Will the PS3 upconvert well enough or do I need to buy this BD to get super quality?

You mean you bought it the first time? With Godfather series, I can understand. But....Fifth Element? Just kidding. I'd say, get the Blu-Ray. Upconversion is a cheap trick any modern DVD player can do. But only the real thing will satisfy you if you really dig the movie, and Hi Def is Hi Def. You can't really fake it. Go for it!

wait a little bit, and see if you can pick it up cheap on half.com. I get most of my stuff there a few months after they are released. owned by eBay, but sellers can ship the books/CDs and DVDs by media mail, and it is actual shipping cost. You can pay with a credit card, and not have to do it through PayPal. I get lots of regular DVDs shipped in the $6-8 range for basically watched once movies, and CDs for maybe $5 or so.
I LOVE the 5th Element. Great music. One of the ladies in the Rat City Rollergirls skates under the name Leeloo.

Why don't you play your existing version on the PS3 and see if it suffices. If you're sufficiently far from the TV, the Blu-Ray version won't really make a difference.

I am sure the movie will look fine with what I have but hey, there are few movies I will pay for again to get the best. This is one of them. Best Buy has it going for $20 and I have $6 left on the gift card I got from buying the PS3 so I think I may be making a purchase tonight!

The original Bluray copy of the Fifth Element was a terrible transfer.
I don't know if they have redone it yet. To me the standar dvd superbit version looked as goood if not better than the Bluray version.
