First post from the mini, a Mac mini that is! - rgG - 03-12-2009 The Viewsonic 22" LCD finally showed up and the (new but previous generation) Mac mini had been waiting since Monday, so now I am posting from this lovely new setup. The screen is just wonderful, thanks AlphaDog for recommending the Viewsonic, and the mini is small and silent. I am sure my husband will like all the new screen real estate and not having to listen to the eMac's fan blasting. The Viewsonic came with all the cables, even the audio cable for the speakers. I have it hooked up via DVI and the 1920 x 1080 looks great. I still need to bring over his few files and his old Mail mailbox, but that will wait till tomorrow morning. I think this system will serve him well. Let's hope it lasts at least as long as the 800MHz eMac. Re: First post from the mini, a Mac mini that is! - Buzz - 03-12-2009 congrats on the new setup. hopefully it will serve both of you well. those eMacs are kinda finicky when it comes to fan noise; sometimes a cleaning and good slap quiet 'em down and makes 'em happy, sometimes it only makes 'em louder and more pissed off at you. when they're happy, those eMacs were/are great, durable machines. mini's gonna kick its butt performance wise; enjoy. Re: First post from the mini, a Mac mini that is! - Black - 03-13-2009 Any tips for getting Leopard to run on there? Did you order yours with XP or Ubuntu? Thx Re: First post from the mini, a Mac mini that is! - rgG - 03-13-2009 Black wrote: :jest: Re: First post from the mini, a Mac mini that is! - AlphaDog - 03-13-2009 Congratulations!!! I'm really glad you like the looks of the set up, now that it's a reality. Just work very slooooowly and methodically and take your time getting those folders moved. You do want to give the new computer and monitor a solid test before turning it over to your hubby. ![]() Re: First post from the mini, a Mac mini that is! - DP - 03-13-2009 Leader! Yeah, I think that with all the work you're doing, you should make sure it's working properly even if it takes say, two or three years. I am scheduled to take delivery of my new iMac tomorrow. Will post when I get it set up... Re: First post from the mini, a Mac mini that is! - rgG - 03-13-2009 I told my husband, just joking, that I thought he might rather have my 17" iMac than this setup. He said I could probably talk him into it, if that was what I wanted. I thought that was sweet, but told him that I was fine with my iMac and this one was his. I might have to consider getting myself a second monitor at some point though. Re: First post from the mini, a Mac mini that is! - MacArtist - 03-13-2009 Hey, someone actually bought a Mac around here! Leader!! Re: First post from the mini, a Mac mini that is! - DP - 03-13-2009 Lucky hubby... I am getting my new iMac because my wife's office bought our old iMac to replace her Quicksilver. We will use her Apple Display as a second monitor so I'm thinking with all the cheap (but good) monitors out there you should treat yourself, too. |
