Make sure it is an Apple keyboard-I assume it is-since you were asking earlier about the iBook.

You may also be able to hold down the option key on boot-and you will get a selection of all bootable volumes available-you might be able to select it then.

All else fails Hold Command (Apple Key)-option-P-R and zap the pram-listen for at least 3 start chimes.

I have trouble with that on older units.

Previously a USB MacAlly wouldn't do it for the Smurf.
I went back to an ADB keyboard in the Smurf - and that works...... sometimes.

Very frustrating when I have things I want to do.
And OPTION via ADB provides no choices.

I would imagine this is an even bigger problem with BT keyboards.
Where is the Bluetooth activation for keyboard commands
during start-up?

Perhaps in the ROM of the newest machines.......

Maybe on startup try command shift option delete.
If nothing else works choose it first in startup disk in the System preferences.

Thanks, nothing worked till I got out the old install disks about 10.1 or something like that which specifically said "to install restart your computer and hold down the letter "c"".........yeps....

This is just one of the things that bugs me about OSX...booting from a CD....

I'm saving the instructions you gave, however, for the next time!

That is why Apple specifically says you need a cabled KB and Mouse for troubleshooting. No BT command keys before BT loads.
Nothing in the ROMs yet.

If you were trying to install Tiger-Your optical drive may not support DVD

You can also try holding down the option key at startup. This should show all bootable volumes -- including CDs. Sometimes this will show the CD even if you cannot boot from it by holding the C key.

Also you can go to System Preferences and choose startup disk and then choose CD. If this works to get it to then boot up from the drive again you have to either hold down the option key OR hold down the mouse button to force eject the CD before booting.
