Need help with fixing overlapping files problem! - ATT - 03-21-2006

Hi All,

One of my friend is having issues with overlapping files on his computer. He thinks the problems were caused by installing Virex on his computer. Then the computer started crashing. He tried repair permission and wasn't able to. He has been running Disk Warrior on his HD. It's been taking 10 hours or so at a time to finish. He has ran DW about 5 times now, and it's taking less time to finish.

I remember reading about this in other forum last year....

Can someone refresh my memory of what causes overlapping files, and whether Disk Warrior can fix it? Also, does this means that the HD is a lost cause, and that the best thing to do is to erase the HD and reinstall the OS?

Any other disk utility software that he should use to fix this problem?

overfull hard drives is a big culprit. no less than 10% is a good rule of thumb.

Emptying the trash while copying files will do it too (or it did to me) Basically lots of concurrent writes/overwrites and/or erases on a nearly full drive.
