My name is voodoopenguin and I'm........ - voodoopenguin - 04-07-2009

..... a compostoholic.

I admit it, I love my compost. I love aiding nature create this lovely stuff that helps my flowers and vegetables to grow so well. Today I cleared out the lefthand bin then turned all of the righthand bin into it which will help break it down further. The righthand bin is now being filled with the winter's dead stuff as I get the garden ready for the main growing season. I rarely buy compost these days, maybe the occasional specialist seed stuff and it's good knowing exactly what I am putting on my garden.

Another job we managed today was the clear out of the summer house which we have named 'The Near Pavilion'. All the furniture out and cleaned, all little spiders etc. scooted outside and then a tidy up of the permanent pots. The Magnolia Stellata is looking good and has many more buds to come. The hammock is just being aired and decobwebbed, not quite the weather for using yet although the sun has been shining. I haven't bothered too much about the grass in front as most of that will be coming out when I create another pond, hopefully in the next month or three.

My spousal unit is buying me a worm farm for my special day.
Can't wait.
Something to do the job in winter.
My tomatoes will rule!!

Welcome to the meeting. There is a nice pot of tea over in the corner with some lovely biscuits. Tonight's presentation will be on 'Humorous Humus", by Mrs. Euphegenia Peatmoss. Please don't forget to keep your area tidy, and please drop a pound in the donation box by the door.

And yes, it's lovely. My mother teaches classes in composting in St. Louis. We had a worm farm in our basement for years, and a box she buried in the back yard for the kitchen organic waste that had the best and biggest fishing worms a boy could ask for. As long as you got past the smell. The box was closed so the neighborhood rodents, canines, and felines didn't go shopping for snacks. I used to have a wonderful "E" shaped bin setup in our old house made of old pallets- lift, turn, and swap the bins.

Very cool, voodoo. My 12 year old daughter has been working on a project to start composting at her school as part of an https://ecybermission.apgea.army.mil/ contest. I'm sending her a link to your post.

I hope you aren't one of those hardcore wierdos who trots out at 3am with his chamber pot, and stirs it into the pile.

Looks nice!
I just toss all my yard waste into a pile in the woods behind my house. Seems to do OK... although I don't try to use it for anything after that.

I've tried to build convenient wood bins like that, but the frost heaves here destroy them.
I stick to a rather simple 20-25 foot long section of fence around in a circle to make a bin.

Black gold.

Ah, the night soil officianados. No I don't go that far although we keep being told that we should urinate on the heap every now and then. I will pass(!!) on that as well.
